Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for 3 hours each class. 9 hours total per week with each week featuring a unique topic. Take one or all of these trendsetting courses. There are two sessions, one for ages 7-10 and one for ages 11-14. Each class size is limited to 10 students. Click the tabs below to see class descriptions.
June 30th, July 1st, July 3rd
Looking at various outdoor sculptures and mixed media artists, students will gain a new understanding of natural materials. In this class students will create grass sculptures, make a terrarium with plants and cool glass items, and create a Young Sprouts Art garden.
GLASS PROJECT: Use recycled bottles to create a personalized garden cloche.
July 7th, July 8th, July 10th
Who designed those clothes you are wearing? Learn to make beads, shopping bags, button rings, and pins. Define your personal style with cool recycled items such as telephone wire, game
pieces, and materials you had never thought of. Make extra’s for family and friends so you can spread your personal message.
GLASS PROJECT: Turn a glass bottle into personalized drinking glass for yourself.
July 14th, July 15th, July 17th
We will explore a world of patterns and shapes found in nature that every culture and civilization uses for decoration. Greek mosaics, Celtic crosses, Rose windows in Cathedrals, and beyond. We will look at plant life, cell structures, and more while we create our own patterns, meditation wheels, mandalas, and weaving plates.
GLASS PROJECT: Use recycled glass from the studio to create a unique mosaic picture frame.
July 21st, July 22nd, July 24th
Many Artists use natural materials in their work. We will discuss renewable sources such as bamboo, found items, and other natural material such as gourds and sticks. A short outdoor hike will give us all the materials we need to create a mini habitat for our hand crafted stick animals.
GLASS PROJECT: Use recycled glass to create a layered fused glass tile/coaster.
July 28th, July 29th, July 31st
Our favorite course, this workshop teaches how to use simple materials around the home in cool, creative ways. Newspaper flowers, zen gardens, and personalized recycle bins give students
a new twist to upcoming trends and green ideas. We even use some composting worms to teach about recycling!
GLASS PROJECT: Sandblast patterns on recycled sheet glass to create a personalized set of coasters.
August 4th, August 5th, August 7th
Found patterns in nature can give us amazing insight into geometric forms and shapes. Using a compass we will draw out a pattern called ‘the circle of life’. Then we will highlight 3D shapes with in
a 2D drawing! Sounds hard? It’s really easy and a great introduction into how geometry is all around us. We will make snowflakes, labyrinths, mazes, and more.
GLASS PROJECT: Make a stepping stone from recycled glass in your own Geometric pattern.
August 11th, August 12th, August 14th
Time to play with your food! This hands on class really dives in and gets students to think creatively about the fruits and vegetables we eat. Learn to create flower garnishes, mushroom people, watermelon boats, and a variety of vegetable critters. Ice sculptures, pulled sugar, and more. You will never look at your food the same again!
GLASS PROJECT: Torchwork: use colorful glass rods to create a set of swizzle sticks.
August 18th
Come and help us create the greatest gallery showing: the Young Sprouts summer showcase. We will create ice sculptures, design and make glass serving bowls, make recycled paper flowers and more! 2D promotional materials such as banners and nametags will help decorate the studio for this seasons finale.
GLASS PROJECT: Learn how to be a glass designer by helping create glass bowls for the final show.
